1. Lakers wants to fence in a pimp ass huge ass rectangular crib for his baby. The crib is to be 5 ft longer than wide. If Lakers can afford at most 146 ft. of wire to build the fence, what is the greatest possible width for the pimp ass crib?
n: width
n+5: length
2(n) + 2(n+5) = 146
4n + 10 = 146
4n = 136
width: n = 34 ft
length: n+5 = 39 ft

2. Find four consecutive integers whose sum is 138
o + (o+1) + (o+2) + (o+3) = 138
4o + 6 = 138
4o = 132
o = 33
integers: 33, 34, 35, 46

3 Find three consecutive odd integers whose sum is between 135 and 147.
135 < v + (v+2) + (v+4) < 147
135 < 3v + 6 < 147

L+50: speedeast
9 to 11 am = 2 hours
2500 = 2(L) + 2(L+50)
2500 = 4L + 100
2400 = 4L
speedwest: L= 600 km/hr
speedeast: L+50 = 650 km/hr

7. It takes a warrior dasher 40 minutes longer to dash from Black Forest to Rocky Road at 525 mi/h than it does to return at 600 mi/h. How far are Black Forest and Rocky Road part?

distance = y*speed
525 mi/h = 8.75mi/min
600 mi/h = 10 mi/min
8.75*(y+40) = 10y
8.75y + 350 = 10y
350 = 1.25y
y = 280 min
distance = y*10 = 280*10= 2800 mi

Oh and Von, I have a question. Can you please explain to me what the point of Significant Figures are? I know they are very important in the medicine field, and I get the concept (round the product's number to the lowest amount of digits one of the reactants has), but I just don't get what's their overall role.

What about sigfigs?
theyre easy

.00235 There are 3 sigfigs
you gotta get the decimal to make a # between 1 and 10
so you would put the decimal to
2.35
and you would count all the digits
so thats 3 sig figs

but if its from the right
1524000.
you move to the left
1.524000
you count all the digits so its
7 sigfigs

In theory, you can't multiple two numbers and get a value more precise than what you started with. So if you only know something within 1 significant digit, even if you multiple by something more precise (1.0000000001), you can only be sure of one of the digits of the product (the leftmost).

But I rarely see it done, lol. Usually people will present their raw data which has the right sig figs with no modifications. When they do round, it's usually to two decimal points. I've never lost points for putting too many sig figs except in my mechanics class.

I just wondered because at times, the way the number was rounded, it completely threw me off (e.g. can only have one sig fig, even though you get 1600, you have to go to 2000). I got it, it's easy, but just the point confused me. Thank you :]

Lets say you are 16 years 2 months and 5 days old and your grandmother thinks shes about 70 (she forgot her exact birthday and age). Your grandmother's claimed age is only an estimate (may not the be exact theoretical number).

If we ask your granny at what age she became your grandmother (the age difference between you two), she cannot tell us that it is 53 years, 9 months and 26 days. That is because even though your age is exact, your grandmother's age wasn't exact and the imprecision from granny's age carries on through the calculation.

I'm not sure how helpful my example was hihi. But that's what sig figs are for, its the give you an idea of how exact a number is. It becomes more important when you are presenting data from a serious clinical study.
